I feel obligated to inform you that there are certain aspects of it that are terrible. But when all is said and done, being a plumber is a terrific career, and the benefits much outweigh the drawbacks.

I first worked in the plumbing industry thirty years ago. Because of this, I have a lot of experience, and I can see why some plumbers feel that their work is terrible. I am also aware of the reasons behind my current state of affairs. If you are willing to pay attention to what I have to say and pay attention to the things that I state in this post, and if you grasp that when you enter your profession or improve in your job, it is going to help you out if you are just starting.

Environment In Which Plumbers Are Employed

The majority of people have the misconception that male plumbers operate inside structures, specifically the homes of their customers. You are correct in the majority of the important aspects. But what do you do if you find yourself at the home of a stranger and you have to use the restroom? I’m just asking, what if you have to go to the bathroom or something? You can’t simply go up to a client and ask, “Hey, do you mind if I use your restroom?” That is not correct at all. Therefore, it’s possible that you need to go.

What if it’s the middle of winter and you’re working on a water lake outside? That’s not always a smart idea. And we are not allowed to enter the building at any time that we want. When I was doing a huge assignment out in Southerland one year, the temperature outdoors was -1 degrees, and it was frigid. And despite the chilly weather, we had to continue working outdoors on the railroad tracks. That is not within our sphere of influence. We may attempt to keep warm by donning a large number of layers of clothing. On the other hand, you are aware of the nature of the working environment.

Also, I’m in Windhoek. In the middle of summer, I swear to God that the temperature reached 43 degrees. There is nothing you can do to alleviate the discomfort of the heat in such a situation. As a result, the setting in which plumbers often operate is not always ideal.

Working as a plumber is physically demanding work.

Right now, I’m nearly 65 years old. Here’s the thing: I’m now working below a cabinet, and I have to lie down on my back. The bottom of the cabinet base is pressing up on me, and attempting to work above is a pain. My shoulders, back, hips, and knees are all in pain right now in addition to my knees. It can be that terrible at times. Now, though, here’s the catch: We won’t get into any trouble if we exercise self-control while we’re still young.

When I was in my youth I can still vividly recall lifting a piece of cast iron pipe with a diameter of 150 millimeters and ascending a ladder that was 10 feet tall to hang it. Even now, men seldom engage in such behavior. We utilize duct jacks. When we lift objects, we use a variety of various methods.

However, this puts a strain on your physical body. Consider the implications. age of 65 years old I have crawled under so many houses that I can’t even begin to count them all. Therefore, keep that in mind when you are working on it. Are knee pads something you plan to purchase? Are you standing or sitting down? Are you extending your muscles? Are you becoming limber? What are you doing at the moment? to put oneself in a situation in which this won’t be detrimental to you? Because I’m warning you now that if you don’t take some action to safeguard yourself, it’s going to do you harm in the future.

Some of the most famous plumbers alive today are so old that they can scarcely move. To tell you the truth, it is going to be challenging for you. Therefore, be sure to take care of yourself while you’re still young and never lift more weight than you should without first asking for assistance. Eat well, stay active, and conduct yourself in a responsible manner. And this is a field in which you may excel.

In the Plumbing Trade, Arrogant People

Third, and I feel I must tell it like it is here, there are some haughty individuals working in this industry. Certainly not the majority of plumbers, but there is a great deal of them. Consider the fact that in South Africa, a certificate from an accredited high school is sufficient to enter the workforce in most trades. How many of the individuals you know have a high school diploma but would be unable to follow instructions to pour water out of a boot if they were written on the bottom of the boot? Now, I have worked with plumbers like that before. And don’t get me wrong.

However, here’s the catch: After graduating from high school, there are a significant number of individuals who immediately begin their employment search. And the plumbing industry can be the one that they encounter. That’s sort of how things went down for me as well. But I have some suggestions on how you might improve. Keep in mind that you are not required to be that and that you are free to be whatever or whatever you choose to be.

So get started on your studies and don’t stop. And never stop striving to increase your value to the organization for which you are working. That will assist you in moving up, which will assist you in being promoted and will assist you in doing bigger things. Now, take a look at the other folks that are working with you.

You should be able to look at around eight of the individuals you work with and be able to say, “Okay, I’m smarter than they are.” This is the case if you have ten coworkers. The most crucial question to ask oneself is, what can you do to improve yourself, and how can you educate yourself? Education is one thing that can never be taken away from you, no matter what.

It does not make a difference to me if you did not attend college since I also did not attend college. You have to confess, though, that you have been searching about in the trades. There are a few men who are full of themselves in there. I’ve seen individuals do things, and there’s no need for them to do anything that’s going to make an impact on the world.

It is important to keep in mind that in order to be a plumber, you do not need to have the highest IQ in the room. However, if you put in the effort to learn how to do things properly and study, you have the potential to be the most knowledgeable plumber in the room. And make continuous efforts to better yourself. And after you have improved yourself and added value to the plumbing organization you work for, you are now worth more money to them.

The Trade of Plumbing May Not Be the Best, At Times.

You’re going to really like this one, even if it may be a real pain at times. The reality of the situation is as follows. That is not necessarily how things have to be all the time. But let me tell you this, I’ll never forget coming into a job interview. It was the first firm that I worked with performing plumbing work, and this was probably about 30 years ago. And we received a call instructing us to go to a housing complex.

And I went to it, which was sort of strange given that we don’t generally do apartments since they’re more work. Nevertheless, I went there. And here I am, strolling down the corridor. And by that, I mean that simply just going down the hall is enough to convince me that this place is terrifying. When I finally reach a door, I discover that it is not a door but rather an open door. But I mean, it’s like you just look at people’s living rooms. So you approach the door frame and give it a knock. And I’m like, sure, just come on in and stroll down the hallway here. I needed to use the restroom, so I went. And I’ve got to tell you, it’s got to be one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in my whole life.

It was a terrible piece of work. It was loaded with human waste. It was flying in every direction. I have to tell you that there was so much feces, paper, and other trash heaped up that it was over the seat, and I told myself that I couldn’t continue doing this. I said to myself, “Yo, I’m not going to clean this up.” You guys need to get things to a point where I can come in here and get some work done. And I must tell you, I didn’t do it. So, is it even a possibility? Absolutely.

What it is cannot be changed. People tell me all the time that they don’t want to work in plumbing because they don’t want to deal with excrement. And I hear this a lot. You’re lucky in that regard since you don’t have to deal with it very often. It’s really not nearly as horrible as you think it is, to put it another way. provided that you keep it in mind and that you comprehend it. There are days, that’s for sure. What it is cannot be changed. However, the bright side is that none of us are required to be electricians. We are in excellent shape so long as we don’t work as electricians.

Keep in mind that you need to take care of yourself. Work out, stay active, and maintain a healthy diet in order to extend the amount of time you can spend working in the trades. Maintain a constructive middleman, have understanding, and don’t stare at me like I’m an idiot. It makes perfect sense to me. I have the ability to learn. I have the ability to educate myself. If this is your first time working in the industry.

If you have any questions, you should ask the plumbers, but you should ask the plumbers in such a way as to let them know that you really want to learn, make retirement plans, you’re going to retire one day, and one day, you’re going to be as old as me. If you have any questions, you should ask the plumbers. And you’re going to wish you didn’t have to go to work till the age that I would have already been retired from the Union had I begun working there immediately after I from high school.

Always continue your education. Look, I’m 65 As a plumber, I am approaching 66 years old, yet I always walk away having gained fresh knowledge. But if it would help me become a better plumber, I want to learn about new things—new goods, new tools, new plumbing equipment, and new anything else that comes out. And if I’m improving myself via education and training, then I have the freedom to pursue whatever endeavor I want. In addition to this, keep in mind that the work is not always terrible, but very rewarding.
